Morning-

fire lit.


Early fall light

flits in bits

through yellowing

beech leaves.


Rust from leak

patinas wood stove

while sodden wood,

just split,

barely burns.


Books of wisdom and wit

stacked

on shelves

tables

floors.


3 hatchets,

Like fawn legs,

the “hang” of each

handle unique,

allows

iron axe head

to bite the rounds

and make

the cracking sound

of dry white ash

splitting.
